Three steps in prayer

What Jesus taught us to pray (Matthew 6:8-13) can be practiced with three steps.

     1.  Settle down (for yourself and others)

  • Matthew 6:8 – “…your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”

     2. Start with God (for yourself and others)

  • YOUR Name be honored
  • YOUR Kingdom come,
  • YOUR Will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

    3. Seek God for your needs (for yourself and others)

  • Give us
  • Forgive us
  • Deliver us

I use this as my guide each day as I pray for myself and many others. I hope it will help you to stay focused in prayer.

Matthew 6:8-13

“your Father knows what you need before you ask him.  “This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven,

  • hallowed be your name,
  • your kingdom come,
  • your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

  • Give us today our daily bread.
  • forgive us our sins, as we also have forgiven those who sin against us.
  • lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”
