We must guard our expectations for life in a fallen world. Differences and difficulties often threaten peace between people — even among those who care deeply about each other.

Jesus clearly anticipated disruptions of Christian fellowship. He also taught us about the priority of reconciled relationships (Matthew 5:23-24;Matthew 18:15ff). We should not be surprised by disruptions but always ready to seek reconciliation.

These fractures are very different from the many minor grievances that should be immediately covered in love (I Peter 4:8) and from non-essential matters that should never be permitted to cause conflict in the Church (Romans 14:1-3). Believers must be mature on such matters.
