What does life with God look like?

Saturday walk“What does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God” (Micah 6:8).

What does walking humbly with God look like? The imagery of walking with God pictures a personal relationship – a kind of companionship.

  • What are the essentials for walking with God?
  • What does life with God look like?

The answer is provided in a fathers instruction to his son (Proverbs 3:5-12). The father uses five verbs to describe what life with God involves. Although it is not an exhaustive picture, it covers important nonnegotiable actions for all who desire to walk with God.

As you consider the five non-negotiable essentials for walking with God, notice that each one defines a way of relating to God based on an active response to Him.

This does not describe life in a monastery or a Church building or a religious retreat. This is daily life lived in reality with all the opportunities, challenges and trials of life.

Five essentials for life with God (from Proverbs 3:5-11)

  1. Trust in the Lord (v.5);
  2. Acknowledge Him (v.6);
  3. Fear the Lord (v.7);
  4. Honor the Lord (v.9);
  5. Do not despise the Lord’s discipline (v.11).
  • Explore each of these in greater depth. Each one could be a main topic for discipleship.
