Two emphatic personal confessions are essential to life based on the gospel. Each one is a declaration. The first is a strong personal renunciation followed by a cry for help; the second, a grateful declaration of personal deliverance.

1. “What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death?” (Romans 7:24)

2. “Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!” (Romans 7:25)
